California Roll
Rice roll with nori leaf inside that wraps a filling of cucumber, crab meat and avocado.
It is another invention created in Los Angeles in the 60s by the chef Ichiro Mashita, born from the need to accustom American taste to raw fish. In this maki the chef thought about replacing tuna (not always available) with avocado, hiding inside the nori seaweed, unpleasant to chew for Americans’ tastes.
